Sub-Soil Water
Karachi, a bustling metropolis facing water scarcity due to rapid population growth and urbanization, relies primarily on the Indus River system and Hub Dam for its water supply. However, the demand outweighs the available water, especially for industrial and commercial usage, with only 60MGD out of 220MGD being met. To address this, the government introduced regulations in 2018 allowing the extraction of subsoil water for industrial purposes. Since then, 34 licenses have been issued by the Karachi water and sewerage Board to help alleviate the water shortage.
