Mayor Karachi and Chairman Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has announced plans to ensure an additional 300 MGD water supply in Karachi before the end of his tenure as mayor.
His term is ending on June 19, 2027, and by June 18, he said, he aims to that the KW&SC has added an extra 300 MGD water to its system.
CEO, KW&SC Syed Salahuddin Ahmed will represent Pakistan in the Global Water Summit to be held in London.
The Global 300 Water Leaders Group UK has invited Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, CEO / MD of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), to participate in the Global Water Summit in London, United Kingdom, scheduled for April 15-17, 2024.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Karachi Water Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed instructed the implementation of special arrangements for the supply and sewerage of water throughout the city before Muharram Ul Haram. In this regard, a letter was issued to the relevant authorities of the KW&SC, They were tasked to coordinate with the district administration, elected public representatives including all relevant departments especially Shia scholars and leaders of the Jafaria Alliance during the Muharram Ul Haram. Effective measures for the supply and sewerage of water would be taken around Mosques, Imambargahs, Majlis, Sabiles, Procession Routes and throughout the city, Moreover, ensuring the cleanliness of sewage overflow while maintaining proper sewerage on main roads and public places, especially around Imambargahs and Procession Routes is essential to avoid any inconvenience for citizens and mourners. In addition to this, while instructing the Incharge Hydrants Cell, the CEO of KW&SC said that during Muharram Ul Haram, necessary water tankers should be provided to Mosques, Imambargahs, Majlis, Sabiles, and Procession Routes to fulfill the water needs of the public. All chief engineers and superintendent engineers were directed to ensure uninterrupted water supply throughout the city and provide duty rosters for staff during the general holidays of Muharram Ul Haram and all executive engineers remain on high alert to handle any emergencies. The CEO of KW&SC directed the executive engineer of KW&SC’s workshops that all machinery should be kept ready at all times for the convenience of citizens, and the presence of drivers should be ensured to facilitate the operation of suction and jetting machines. He emphasized that no shortcomings would be tolerated in the arrangements for Muharram Ul Haram because providing better facilities to citizens is their top priority. According to the spokesperson of KW&SC, Chief Engineer Water Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Chief Engineer Sewerage Aftab Alam Chandio, Executive Engineer Workshop Division Shafqat Hussain Maghan and Focal Person for Hydrants Cell Shahbaz Bashir have been nominated as focal persons in connection with Muharram Ul Haram arrangements.
Water Corporation officials have refuted unfounded claims regarding underground water licenses, asserting that licenses will be issued in full compliance with regulations and transparency. The Water Corporation Act mandates that all illegal licensed connections, lines, boreholes, and tanks will be dismantled. Legal action will be taken against violators, including the registration of cases, and a fine of Rs. 50 Lacs will be imposed all prospective applicants are urged to submit their application forms by the deadline corresponding to their category. Notably, the previous 34 underground licenses have been revoked
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed visited the University Reservoir and inspected it and made a detailed review of the water supply On this occasion, COO KW&SC Engineer Asadullah Khan, Zafar Palijo, Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Intekhab Ahmed Rajput, Syed Ajaz Ahmed and other senior officials were with him. During the visit, the officials gave a detailed briefing to CEO KW&SC regarding Water trunk man and reservoirs. On the occasion of the visit, the CEO KW&SC issued orders to Chief Engineer WTM and Chief Engineer Water to solve the water problem in Central District and said that the water supply in Central District should be further improved and the water problems in the central district should be solved on an emergency basis. He said that the regular water supply to the city should be ensured from all bulk pumping stations, all resources should be utilized for uninterrupted supply of water throughout the city, and concrete measures should be taken for fair distribution of water in the water corporation system, while water complaints in the city should be resolved immediately. He further said that strict action will be taken against the officers and employees who are negligent in the uninterrupted supply of water in the city because providing better water supply and sewerage facilities to the citizens is one of the top priorities of the new administration of the Water Corporation. According to the Spokesperson KW&SC, the CEO KW&SC is conducting a detailed review of water supply by inspecting all important installations of Water Corporation for further improvement in water supply in the city, while the main purpose of the visit is to further improve the water supply in the city.
